com), a peer-review guide for which chefs
were nominated by fellow chefs, other culinary
professionals and food enthusiasts. The guide’s
editors interviewed more than 5,000 chefs and
chose for inclusion those they considered the
most talented, exciting and influential in the U.S.
Costa Magoulas, CEC, CCE,
CCA, AAC, dean of Mori Hosseini School
of Hospitality Managment, Daytona State
College, Daytona Beach, Fla., has received
the Florida Restaurant & Lodging Association
Education Foundation’s Pineapple Award for
outstanding service to the ProStart School-to-Career Program. He accepted the award at the
Salute to Excellence Awards, March 8, at Rosen
Plaza Hotel, Orlando, Fla. Magoulas is a member
of ACF Daytona Beach Chefs Association.

Kara Ann Naimoli, CC, sous chef
with Hilton Wilmington/Christiana, Newark, Del.,
received ACF First State Chefs Association’s
Chef of the Year award at the chapter’s
President’s Dinner held Jan. 12 at Chesapeake
Inn, Chesapeake City, Md. Naimoli serves as
chapter secretary.
L. Timothy “Tim” Ryan CMC,
AAC, president of The Culinary Institute of
America, Hyde Park, N. Y., and a member of
Mid Hudson Culinary Association, received the
2013 Innovation Award from the University
of California at Los Angeles (UCLA), April 3,
at the UCLA Extension Restaurant Industry
Conference on the university’s campus. The
award recognizes influential leaders who have
contributed to the evolving landscape of the
food, beverage and restaurant industry.

Alfonso Contrisciani, CMC,
WGMC, AAC, academic dean/director of
hospitality, Programs & Practicum Properties,
Hocking College, Nelsonville, Ohio, and director
of the Culinary Arts, Baking, Pastry and Hotel
Programs and managing director of the Hotel,
Community Conference Center and downtown
restaurant Rhapsody, became master chef/owner of
Plate Restaurant, Bar & Eatery, New Albany, Ohio,
in March. Plate is a farm-to-table concept featuring
healthy American comfort food. Contrisciani is a
member of ACF Columbus Chapter.
