Start! San Diego Heart Walk, held
Sept. 19, 2010, in Balboa Park. The
chapter hosted a brunch in the park
for more than 175 heart transplant
recipients, doctors and nurses and
walk participants as a way to give
back to the community and to offer
student culinarians a chance to
take part in offsite catering. Once
expenses were paid, proceeds went
toward the chapter’s Education
Foundation, which sponsors
students’ chapter membership fees
and provides culinary scholarships
to deserving students with
disadvantaged backgrounds.
In November, Mark
Wright, CEC, AAC,
American Academy
of Chefs scholarship
chair, announced
the 2010 Chaîne
des Rôtisseurs
scholarship recipients. The following
recipients will receive $1,000 toward
tuition, books and other school-related fees.

ACF CHEF CREATES
HAUNTED HOUSE FOR
WHITE HOUSE HALLOWEEN
Ray Duey, CEC, joined fellow fruit-and-vegetable carver James Parker at the White
House Oct. 31, 2010, for the president’s
annual Halloween celebration, which was
attended by local school children and military
families. Duey, Parker and several assistant
sculptors spent two days creating a 3x4-foot
haunted house made out of pumpkins. They
also received a special tour by White House
executive chef Cristeta Comerford.
