He says another advantage of the partnership is that using the center for an event doesn’t affect
business at the restaurant. “It turns people off when you say you are closed for a private event.”
Coral Frischkorn, co-owner with husband Will Frischkorn of Cured, Boulder, Colorado,
a cheese/wine/beer/charcuterie store, says she has seen a big upswing in businesses catering
events for employees, rather than for clients. And, they often ask for an educational offering for
staff as part of the package.
“We’ve hosted happy hours for companies in town since we opened four years ago, but
they’ve mainly been client-focused,” says Coral Frischkorn. “Recently, with the explosion of
tech companies in the area, more and more are looking to us to help create a fun, educational,
laid-back employee appreciation event for their crew.” She says tech companies are more apt to
have events, as employees work long hours and employers want to reward them for their hard
work. “They want to offer them something non-tech related, so a food event works great.”
Frischkorn says Cured catered a holiday party at a local law firm in 2014 that included a
whiskey-and-cheese pairing class. “It wasn’t a full meal—we had bread, prosciutto and cheese—
and there was a happy hour vibe. It was a fun way to entertain employees, and a nice way for
them to bond.”
Some companies want a weeknight event catered for employees. “We’ll bring in different
beers and cheeses, and talk about pairings as guests come up to get food,” Frischkorn says. “We
recently hosted a beer, wine and cheese pairing evening for Twitter, which was a huge success.”
A local women’s business group hired Cured for a private wine-and-cheese pairing class
for eight women. “That event was more in-depth, and we discussed how wine is made and how
cheese is made,” Frischkorn says.
